Chapter 13 First Impression Post

--Original published at Rachelsblog

After taking these 4 personality tests, I feel as if they are very accurate to my personality. First off, all of the tests show me to be more of an extravert rather than an introvert. Which is find is very accurate. I tend to find myself liking social situations rather than being alone, although at sometimes, being alone is not always the worst thing. I tend to enjoy being around tons of people, although, I do not like being the center of attention and tend to stick to the outside of the circle. I don’t find it hard to talk or be outgoing in social situations, which makes me an extravert. In contrast, when it comes to feelings and emotions, I tend to keep mine to myself because I find that to be a difficult thing to share. Although, I am always open and the first to help other people with their emotions and feelings and problems they may be having. Another trait I have is taking other people’s problems and placing the blame on myself. If there is an issue with me and a friend, I tend to take the blame before the other person would, even if it is not my fault,  because I do not like conflict and always look for a resolution.

A common thread through all the test is that I am a planner. I do not like “going with the flow” when it comes to plans. It tends to stress me out. I tend to be very organized as well. All my binders for school are color coordinated and my notes are written perfectly in an organized way. On top of this, I like being giving directions, step by step directions. Ones that I can follow directly and not have room to make mistakes or decisions on my own. I find myself to be bad at decision making and tend to follow what other people may think is the best for the group because I am not good at making decisions. It stresses me out as well.

I find these personality tests to strongly fit who I am. After taking these tests, I reflected on situations that have happened recently and realized I am this way.

Chapter 13: Personality

Overall, some of the personality tests matched what i believe my personality while others did not. While taking the Jung Typology Test, the results stated that I was neither introvert nor extrovert, while also perferring sensing over intuition, judging over perceiving, and feeling over thinking. I believe this test may be accurate. While I may come off as extrovert to most, I personally believe I am an introvert therefore, the statement that I do not lean toward either is accurate in my opinion. The next test called the type theory test painted my personality as one that was very sociable who excels in service occupation involving personal contact. The reason I disagree with this statement is because I do not think I excel with personal contact. The third test stated that I was an extrovert and agreeable. I agree with the agreeable result but not as much the extrovert part. The final quiz I took was the color quiz. This quiz did not give a as clear as a personality type but stated multiple different things that I would agree with. One statement that I completely agree with is that I like things to go my own way. The issue with most of these quizzes is that I could potentially be either extrovert or introvert. I am either very extrovert or very introvert. There is usually no in between. Overall, I believe that these quizzes could potentially be accurate,  but because I believe I can be very many different characteristics and personality traits, I cannot accurately assess it.

First Impression: Personality

After completing all four personality tests, I got similar results from three of the four. And though I did not think to describe myself in the ways that the results did, they do make sense. The first test, Jung Typology Test described me as a ESFJ, the E means extravert, the S is for sensing, the F is for feeling and the J is for judging. I am 53% extraverted over introversion. The test rated me 9% sensing over intuition, 16% feeling over thinking and 12% judging over perceiving. This test is credible in my opinion, for the most part but there were some questions that I did not quite have a full understanding of in order to answer in the best way possible.

The second personality test was called the Personality Test Center (Type Theory) which also resulted in the ESFJ which this site called the “seller”. This test described ESFJ as the most sociable of all the types, this type of person makes an outstanding host or hostess and would excel in jobs with personal contact. 13% of the population are this type of person. This matches my personality pretty well in my opinion because I am outgoing and excel in areas where it requires personal interaction. This sight is as credible as the last one, it better described watch type of person with a paragraph distraction instead of just a few words. Though there were some misspelled words in the questions throughout the test.

The third personality test was the IPIP Big-Five Factor Markers which provided me with five personality traits with the percentile that I was in: extrovert (98th percentile), emotional stability (11th percentile), agreeableness (friendly/optimistic, 80th percentile), conscientiousness (diligent, 92nd percentile), and intellect/imagination (70th percentile). Though this was a real study from a .org source but it does not match as closely to the other two tests. I also do not think it is as credible because it does not have much description at all on what each five factor markers mean.

The final and least credible personality test is the Color Quiz, this was the showing of eight colors and I was asked to pick the colors in an order that made the most sense to me, and then I was asked to do it again, not necessarily in the same order. I think this is the least credible out of the four tests because there were no questions asked, just colors that I chose. It did go very far in depth in describing my results, so in depth it discussed my current situation, my stress sources, restraining characteristics that I have, desired objectives that the test said I have, and the actual problem that was all revealed by the order in which I chose the colors. Though some of the explanations were spot on, it is hard to believe it is because of actual science from colors alone rather than luck.

Overall, I think that for the most part these tests and their results that I got, they are pretty accurate on what I would describe myself as in terms of my personality.

First, the Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test. I got ESFJ. I agree with these results, I do think I am more extroverted and I use my feelings rather than thinking through things. This test I filled in the questions as my first response to it without overthinking it, and I would say this test is reliable. For the Jungian personality test, I also got ESFJ. The questions were kind of obvious on what kind of personality you were going to get, and for some felt my answer was neither of the options. For the big five test, I got extroversion 92%, emotional stability 19%, agreeableness 91%, conscientiousness 67%, and intellect/imagination 28%. I agreed with these results for the most part, but I wished they had been clearer with the results. It was a little hard for me to understand. Last, the color test. Some of my results I agreed with, but others I did not. The first result they gave was my existing situation. They said I was very social and needed a social environment with people who depend on me, and that I can adapt to any situation. I agree I am social and like having people who depend on me, but I do not think I “need” to be in a highly social environment all the time. I do like being around people most of the time, but sometimes I like being alone. Next, they told me my stress sources. They said I need to meet people who have the same values as me and I need to feel dominate. I completely disagree with this. I can be friends with anyone, I do not care if we do not have the same principals. I also do not need to me superior, I try to bring people who are around me up. It also says I want to stand out of the crowd and earn a higher status, which also does not explain me at all. Next they talk about my restrained characteristics. They say I am unhappy because I cannot succeed in understanding what I desire. It also says I keep my emotions bottled up and take offense to small things. I do not agree with these either, I show my emotions and talk it through and I know what I desire in life. Next they talk about my desired objective. It says I rely on love and friends to bring me happiness and I need constant approval. This I do agree with, I surround myself with people who make me happy and I always ask people around me to validate what I am feeling. Last, they tell me my “actual problem”. It says I feel unimportant in my current situation and I am looking got different conditions to prove my worth. I do not really agree with this. Overall, most of the results did not connect with me, but i honestly was not expecting them to since all I did was pick colors.

I took four different personalities test to evaluate myself and to see if I got a similar result on all four tests. The tests I took were the Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test, the Jungian Personality test, the IPIP-BFFM test, and the color test.
The Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test was based on the work of Carl G. Jung to create sixteen different personality tests. This was done by creating four different categories, and in each category, a person judged on a scale. These categories are general attitude, perception, judging, and judging-perceiving. So I feel that the test was based on good science and is credible. My results were that I personality type ISFJ. This means that my results say that my general attitude is slightly introversion, an in the middle of both the perception and judging categories, and am moderately more judging than perceiving. I feel that this is accurate to myself.
The second personality test I took was the Jungian personality test. This test was also based on the work of Carl G. Jung and can determine between sixteen different personality types. The website says this is done by asking questions to determine five main personality traits and thirty sub-personality traits. So based on this information on the test, I feel that this site is credible. My result from this test was that I was personality ESTJ which was similar to the previous test considering that I was in the middle in the judging category. Though I did say that I was an extrovert instead of an introvert, which is different from the last test. I personally feel that I am an introvert and disagree with the results of this test. Also, I disliked that the test did not give as detailed results as the first test.
The third personality test I took was the IPIP-BFFM test, which was also collecting results for research. So this makes the test seem credible since it is good enough to be used in some type of research. Though one of the questions they asked in the extra set of questions for just the researchers was if I owned a goat, and I found that really odd. Then it also wanted to know the exact number of Facebook friends I had, which I liked since I had to give a hard number instead of agreeing or disagreeing. My score was also more details by showing percentiles I fell into, which I also liked. I scored as an introvert, emotionally changing, stubborn, slightly critical, average diligence, and slightly above average for open to experience. I feel that these scores reflect myself well and I don’t object to it.
The color test starts out on a screen that says its widely used and credible but I disagree. During the test, I I did was chose colors I liked in two different orders. The test also did not ask me any question other than my gender. So I can’t say that I find this personality test credible. My results were not even close when it came to restrained characteristics and desired objective. I have to admit the source of stress was close but overall I dislike the color test.

First Impression Post: Chapter 13

--Original published at Taylor'sEtownCollegeBlog

Before taking all four personality tests, I would describe myself as being an organized and outgoing person who overall enjoys the presence of others and strives to make an impacts on other’s lives.  After taking the first personality test, I received the score of ESFJ.  These letters represent extravert, sensing, feeling, and judging.  I agree with this test because I do classify myself as being an extrovert and outgoing.  I also agree with the idea of sensing because I often make decisions based off of how I feel, rather than based solely on intuition.  I am feeling also, because I feel many emotions in situations rather than thinking about the situation.  Finally, I am judging because I am not very go with the flow and I make decisions based off of knowledge and facts.  I found this test reliable because it was based off of a famous personality test that is used by many psychologists.

The second personality test that I took, I scored ESTJ.  I find this interesting be it was very similar to the same results as the first personality test that I took.  The only difference is that instead of feeling, I got the score for thinking.  I think that the results were different because the working of the questions in this personality test were worded in a less confusing manner.  I feel that this test was more reliable because the website was more professional and seemed more scientifically based in the format. There were not ads or banners that would pop up while I was taking the test, unlike all the other tests.

The third personality test that I took, I do not agree completely with the score I received.  This is because I received a higher score for intellect than I did for extroversion.  I always have thought that I am more of a people person rather than an intellectual person. I did not find this test very reliable because there were lots of ads on the screen and it was not very scientific when presenting the results.

The final personality test that I took, I found highly unreliable. When the results were presented, there was improper grammar used and the sentences were not capitalized. I did not agree with these results what-so-ever.  The results that I received were the total opposite of all the results I received from the other tests.

Taking these tests were very interesting and identifying the reliability of these tests was entertaining.

Chapter 13 Personality – First Impression Post

--Original published at Rachel Bickelman's PSY 105 Blog

The Jung Typology Test assigned me INFJ which stands for introvert, intuitive, feeling, and judging. When reading the description I thought it was quite accurate especially the part about being both detachment and involvement in friendships and with humanity as a whole. It was interesting how nuanced but capturing the description was. I am unsure about the credibility of the website. While it provides the same results as the Meyers-Briggs test, it does not have any affiliation with Meyers-Briggs. The personality test is only based on Carl Jung’s and Isabel Briggs-Meyer’s but does not go into detail how the results are calculated.

When I took the second test I got an ESTJ what the website describes as a “Field Marshall.” While I do like to take on leadership positions and help make decisions. Again, the credibility fo this website is unknown. While it is based on Jung’s type theory it does not describe much information about how the personality test is scored. I think it can provide a general idea of an individual’s preferences but cannot be completely accurate.

The big five personality test already seems more credible because it gives background on the personality test itself and how the results are calculated. Additionally it uses a test from an actual international’s study called the International Personality Item Pool. Finally, the test cites legitimate sources. I thought the results I got were relatively accurate. I thought it was interesting I scored over 50 on extroversion because I like to spend time by myself to “recharge.” The score I got on agreeableness and conscientiousness though I thought were accurate, they were both above 50 meaning I am friendly and optimistic, and also, careful and diligent.

Last I took the color personality quiz. I thought this quiz was relatively credible. I do not know much about color psychology but because the website explains a little about it’s relevance to the test and the studies done it seems more credible. The test is said to be accurate but the writers in the “About” section still are unsure if it is reliable. Thus, the credibility of this website decreases since it is not possible to be accurate without being reliable. Finally, when taking the actual test, the results claim they are accurate but not a diagnosis of personality which is contradicting. My results were surprisingly accurate and highlighted my fears and stresses about life.

Chapter 13

--Original published at Bailey PSY 105 Blog

In taking these tests, I found some very interesting (and in most cases accurate) results. The Humanetrics Jung Typology Test told me that I was slightly more extroverted than introverted, slightly more intuitive over sensible, moderately more driven by emotion than thought, and slightly more perceptive than judgmental. I would say that all of these are accurate by my own perception of my personality. I would say this is one of the most accurate of the tests (out of the four we were given), mainly because of the depth and quantity of the questions.

The second test, the Jungian Personalty test, also had a wide variety of in depth and insightful questions, which is why I would say is the other test that was very accurate. The results I got from this test were that I am a ‘Questor,’ meaning I am supposedly idealistic, self-sacrificing, cool and reserved, family and home oriented, have a high capacity for caring, and have a high sense of honer derived from my own internal values. I would say that these results, much like the first, are very accurate. I definitely see myself as someone who cares deeply for people, as well as holding myself to a high standard and putting others before myself.

I do not think that the third test would be as accurate, because it simply measured for ‘the Big 5’ personality traits, being extroversion, emotional stability, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and intellect/imagination. I scored in the 54th percentile in extroversion, the 26th percentile in emotional stability, the 62nd percentile in  agreeableness, the 15th percentile in conscientiousness, and the 40th in intellect and imagination. I would say these results are less true than what I believe about myself.

The final test, the color test, was by far the least accurate in my mind. Anything, from the song you’re listening to to a conversation you are having could sway your mood to the point that it influences you to choose a different color than you originally would. My color test told me that I was sensitive and compassionate, but still feeling strain and pressure. It also told me that I felt trapped and powerless, that I am getting less than I deserve for my hard work, and I want something interesting or exciting to happen in my life. These results read more to me like a horoscope than an actual personality test, and the vague, ambiguous statements could possibly be applied to any person in any given situation.

Taking the 4 personality tests, they were all laid out pretty differently. The first three tests were considerably long, asking similar questions, while the last one was two questions, based on what colors you chose in two separate orders. It seemed that most of the tests described my personality in similar characteristics. In 2 of the testes, my personality was named to be ESFP. This is Extravert, sensing, feelings, and perceiving. Th first test labeled me as 69% Extravert, 28% sensing, 41% feeling, and 12% perceiving. ESFP personalities are known to love people, excitement, telling stories, and having fun. Also very spontaneous, outgoing, and impulsive. The second test also described me as ESFP. More characteristics that come along with this personality type is warmth, daringness, caring, smooth, witty, funny, charming, clever, fun to be around, and more than generous. I think this definitely fits into how I would personally describe myself. I am very outgoing, have a wide social group of friends and always have something to say. I am also a very kind and forgiving person, which sometimes I wish I was less of being I am a “pushover” in some situations. The third test broke my personality traits into five different factors including, extroversion, emotional stability, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and intellect/imagination. I score pretty high in the extroversion category, meaning I am a very outgoing and social person. I didn’t score that high in emotional stability, being my lowest result. In agreeableness, I scored relatively high, meaning I am a friendly and optimistic person. I did not score as high on the next category, being conscientiousness, meaning I can be impulsive and disorganized but not too a large extent. And in connection to intellect and imagination, I scored lower, seeming that I am a traditional type of person. In the last test, I did not really understand how It could give us a variety of characteristics of our personality just be an order of which we picked colors. The test results described me as a strong and unwilling total advice from others, as well as stressed, self centered, thinks that no situation can upset me, and much more. I only agreed with about half of the characteristics it labeled me as. I think the first two tests were the most reliable and accurate to hoe I would personally describe myself.

Chapter 13 First Impression

--Original published at David's Blog

For this week we were told to take quizzes on our personality. It’s always interesting to see what these quizzes say about someone based on the questions they give. For the first quiz It says I’m more towards extroversion than introversion and i’m more sensing then intuition. It also says I prefer thinking and judging. The quiz then describes that I want to achieve order and continuity which I find very true I like keeping things nice and orderly. I then took the second quiz to see f it would give me different results. At the end of the quiz it gave me the same personality as the first one which is ESTJ. I think its interesting I have the same score from the first two quizzes. The third test I took gave me a similar answer as the other ones did. I was told from the test I Like to be organized in my work and that i’m also extroversion. It is quite impressive three of the quizzes so far explained my personality. The last quiz I took was the color test. I found it odd that someone would base a personality on what colors you happen to choose. The results from this one described myself pretty accurately as well. It told about how I like to be the center of attention which is normally true. In general I enjoyed taking the quizzes to see if they would come back true or not. They all came back true and very close to the same thing each time. So I believe these test are very credible since I got basically the same results each time and they were very true to what I think my personality is.
